How to Modify your Motorola Rokr E6 with Ease!
Ok, this is a complete guide on how to modify your Motorola Rokr E6.
The guide is separated into 4 sections:
1. Basics/Getting Started
2. How to Install Java Games
3. How to install .pkg (native) software(s)
4. How to flash your E6 with firmware(s)

1. Basics/Getting Started
This section will tell you all the basics you need to know, before modifying your phone.

REQUIREMENTS
You MUST have the following to carry out the modifications in this guide on your phone:
• Motorola Rockr E6
• SD Card(To transfer the files)
• Windows PC
• Motorola USB Cable for your phone
• MPT-Motorola Phone Tools. You can install this by using the Software CD which comes with your phone.
• Using MPT, backup everything on your phone before commencing any modifications.

RAR and ZIP Files
RAR and ZIP files are compressed packages. Inside these packages will be the file(s) that you will be looking for. You must extract these packages to transfer the files to your phone.
Most files that you will download will either be in the RAR or ZIP format. ZIP files will open up automatically in Windows Explorer; however, to open RAR files you will need additional software.
To open and extract RAR files, you can download WinRAR.

Copying Files to and From your Phone
1. On the phone, go to: Application Launcher > Setup >USB Mode. Make sure that ‘Mass Storage’ is on.
2. Connect your E6 to your pc using the USB cable.
3. Open up Windows Explorer, and go enable “Show Hidden Files and Folders”.( Tools-->Folder Options >View >Show hidden files and folders)
4. The root folder of your memory card should automatically open up. The real path to the root folder is /mmc/mmca1/
5. There should be a folder called “.system”. If there is not then ensure you have done step number 3.
6. You can now transfer files from your PC to the SD card and vice versa.
7. When done, disconnect the USB Cable. Make sure you use “Safely Remove Hardware”.

THAT’S IT! YOU CAN NOW BEGIN TO MOD YOUR E6. CARRY ON READING!

2. How to install Java Games
NOTE: If you download a game and it is in the .pkg format, see section 3!
Difference between .jad and .jar files
The .jar file contains all the application code and media etc. The .jad file just contains some additional information about the application e.g. version number, size, publisher etc.
If the application you download comes with both files, you should copy them both onto your phone. However, most phones should run the application fine with just the .jar file.

The following is a step-by-step guide on how to install java games on your Rockr E6.
1. Download the Java Game(s) that you want to install. See the next section for links to games/apps.
2. Once downloaded, you may have a .jar file or a .jad file or both.
3. Copy them over to your SD card in any folder(e.g. Games)
4. Disconnect your phone from the PC
5. Go to the file manager in your phone, and navigate to the .jar/.jad file you transferred.
6. Once you click on it, a window should pop up asking if you want to install to your phone or your SD card and also which category it should install to.
7. Once the game is installed, restart your phone and then the game should appear in the Application Launcher.
8. That’s it!

3. How to install/run .pkg (native) software(s)

Before you can install/run .pkg files, you have to install MPKG for E6. To do this you must:
1. Download MPKG for E6 here
2. Once downloaded, extract the file. You will see that there is a folder called “.system”
3. Connect your phone to your pc and backup your current .system folder(so you can recover if something goes wrong)
4. Now transfer the .system folder you downloaded onto the root of your SD Card. If you get a windows asking you if you want to “merge folders” then click yes.
5. Disconnect your phone and then restart it
6. You will now see MPKG in your Application Launcher
7. You should NEVER run this application DIRECTLY! Instead, to open .pkg files, you should hold the stylus over the .pkg file until the menu comes up. Then you should go on “Open With” and then select MPKG
Note: Before you install MPKG, you should uninstall any applications that you currently have and then re-install them after you install MPKG. This is because after installing MPKG your phone will not detect any applications that you had installed before, so you must re-install them.

How to run .pkg files
1. Copy the file to the root of your SD Card
2. Disconnect the phone and then using the file manager navigate to the .pkg file
3. Hold the stylus over the .pkg file until the menu comes up. Then go on “Open With” and then select MPKG
4. You will hear a bell type noise. This indicates that the file has loaded
5. Restart the phone and then you should see the app in the Application Launcher
Note: If the file you downloaded is a .mpkg file, then rename it to .pkg

4. Installing Firmware
THIS IS NOT FOR NEWBIES. DOING THIS WRONG COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE!!
Notes:
Backup all the data on your phone as flashing will delete all data on your phone.
ENSURE THAT YOUR BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE FLASHING!!
1. Download the following drive and extract it to your desktop so you can easily get to it-http://www.4shared.com/file/22656918/a783256c/Motorola_USB_Driver_32_v276__All_Moto_.html

2. Download and install to your PC RSDLite
3. Download the firmware you want to install and extract it to your desktop.
4. Open up RSDLite. You may be asked to install a number of drives. Point it to the folder you extracted in step 1
5. Run the phone in Bootloader Mode. To do this, turn off the phone, then turn on the phone whilst holding down the Camera Button and the On/Off button.
6. The phone should switch on with a red screen that says the phone is in MBM(bootloader) mode
7. Connect the phone using the USB cable
8. RSDLite should list the phone (this may take a few minutes).
9. Start the flashing by selecting the firmware on the “...” button on RSDLite. This will now take a while. Your phone will turn off, but the RSDLite will show the progress on your PC.
10. The “Found New Hardware” screen will soon popup. When it does select “NO” for “Can Windows connect to Windows Update?” then select “Y” for “Install Software from a specific location” and point it to the motpcsdrivers folder you extracted (same folder as step 4). Once the driver has installed, select “Finish.”
11. You may have to repeat step 10 a number of times as it will keep on popping up(Found New Hardware Wizard)
12. If it asks you to restart your phone, unplug the cable from the PC, take the battery out of the phone for 5-10 seconds. Then put the battery back in and then turn the phone on.
13. When phone turns on fully, go to Setup > USB Mode and then change “Mass Storage” to “Modem”.
14. Re-connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable.
15. RSDLite should say “Pass” or “Complete”.
16. Disconnect the phone from the PC restart it and then you’re done!
17. Restore the data you backed up earlier!

Did you write this by yourself or it is some combination of internet content and your own story?
I really think that it could help people who have ROKR E6.
